Skin Care Resolutions for 2017 #SkinGoals
It's the time of year that we all reflect and resolve to better ourselves for the year to come. Start 2017 off right with these tips to achieve #skingoals this year.
Wear sunscreen every day. No exceptions! UV rays are at work year-round – regardless of season or climate – so protecting your skin against UVR is essential to keeping your skin happy and healthy. Opt for a mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide (rather than chemical-based) for better, more long-lasting protection.
Hands Off! As tempting as it may be, don't pick at and don't squeeze a pimple, it's that simple.
Schedule your annual derm screening and be diligent about monthly self-exams. When performing a self-examination, follow the ABCDE rule, looking for any moles that are asymmetric, have an irregular border, have inconsistent color, are larger than 6 mm in diameter, or are evolving, changing in shape, size, or color.
Do a clean sweep of the products in your arsenal. Toss anything past its prime, expired, or that didn't quite work well with your skin. Check the labels for any potentially harmful ingredients (e.g. parabens, synthetic dyes, phthalates, triclosan, formaldehyde) and that your products are labeled non-comedogenic.
Wash your makeup brushes regularly. Your makeup brushes and sponges collect a buildup of makeup, oil, and dead skin cells if not washed regularly. To avoid breakouts and possible skin infection, cleaning them regularly should be a no-brainer.
Go to bed with a clean face. Sleeping with a day’s worth of makeup, dirt, and debris can clog the pores, causing breakouts. Also, if you use a retinoid, clean skin is essential to allowing for proper penetration. If you simply can't make it to the sink for a proper wash, stash a pack of cleansing wipes in your night stand to quickly rid your face of makeup, oil, sweat, and dirt.
Get your beauty rest. Our skin’s busiest time for rejuvenation and repair is at night. Getting between 7-9 hours of sleep will leave you feeling and looking well-rested. Not to mention, a good night's sleep will ensure you're mentally sharp and prepared to tackle the day.
